In 1929, the Kryvyi Rih Iron Ore Technical School began training specialists in the mining industry. It was the first educational institution of this type not only in the crooked corner, but also in Ukraine. The industrialization of the 1930s dictated the need to train skilled workers for the region's industry. In 1931, the technical school was renamed the Kryvyi Rih Mining Technical School, which became the basic institution for the training of mining specialists. During the following years of existence the technical school was repeatedly reorganized:

• in 1955 to the Kryvyi Rih Mining and Metallurgical Technical School;
• in 1961 to the Kryvyi Rih Technical School of Mining Automation;
• in 1988 at the Ukrainian Correspondence Polytechnic College;
• in 1999 to the Ukrainian Polytechnic College;
• in 2020 in the Ukrainian Polytechnic College of the State University of Economics and Technology;
• in 2021 in Professional College "Polytechnic".
